About the artwork

“Mountain” is a sculptural interpretation of nature's ancient power and the fascinating beauty of the Earth's layered structure. At the heart of the composition lies an elongated, irregular piece of dark wood whose undulating, elevated surface recalls the silhouette of a mountain range. The combination of naturally shaped timber and carefully arranged layers of colored glass creates a distinctive visual landscape that conveys strength, serenity, and timeless elegance. The upper section of the sculpture is dominated by the wood's original, rugged surface. Deep black and dark brown tones, irregular cavities, cracks, and raised formations evoke the character of a rocky mountain ridge. Near the center, the wooden form rises into a prominent peak before gradually descending toward either end of the composition. This flowing silhouette introduces a natural sense of movement while preserving the authentic character of the material. The lower portion of the artwork consists of numerous carefully arranged layers of colored glass. Alternating bands of pale mint green, muted gray-green, softly shimmering silver, warm bronze, and deep black create a rich yet balanced palette. These horizontal layers resemble a geological cross-section, suggesting the ancient strata that develop deep within mountains over millions of years. The relationship between the rugged wood and the structured glass therefore extends beyond visual contrast, evoking the connection between the Earth's visible surface and its hidden interior. One of the sculpture's most compelling qualities is the dialogue between organic and geometric forms. The uneven, textured wooden surface stands in striking contrast to the orderly horizontal rhythm of the glass layers. Yet the bands are not entirely rigid: they subtly bend and change direction as they follow the contours of the sculpture. This delicate adaptation allows the two contrasting materials to form a harmonious and visually unified composition. The elongated, gently curved structure of “Mountain” gives the artwork a remarkable sculptural presence. One end displays a lower, rounded formation, while the central section rises into a pronounced elevation before gradually tapering toward the opposite side. This changing silhouette reveals different visual relationships from each viewing angle, much like a real mountain landscape whose outlines shift according to the observer's position. Light and shadow play an essential role in the sculpture's appearance. Shadows gather within the recesses of the dark wood, emphasizing its rocky textures and dramatic contours. Meanwhile, the lighter glass layers gently reflect the surrounding light, introducing subtle highlights that animate the structured lower section. The combination of cool greenish tones and warmer metallic hues creates a sophisticated color harmony, balancing the raw power of nature with the refined aesthetics of contemporary sculpture. “Mountain” can also be understood as a meditation on time, transformation, and permanence. The dark, rugged surface and the colorful strata beneath it suggest the visible and hidden chapters of the Earth's history. Through the meeting of naturally formed wood and carefully composed glass, the artist transforms these associations into a distinctive sculptural expression. A one-of-a-kind artwork, “Mountain” celebrates the enduring beauty of natural forms and the creative freedom of contemporary art.
