About the artwork

“Little One” is a sculptural exploration of the remarkable relationship between naturally shaped materials and contemporary artistic expression. At its heart lies an elongated, irregular piece of wood distinguished by its deep black coloration, dramatic textures, and flowing organic contours. By preserving the wood's original character and introducing carefully composed layers of colored glass, the artist transforms a naturally occurring form into a unique visual statement. The wooden surface reveals a fascinating landscape of deep grooves, cracks, and irregular fractures shaped by natural processes and the passage of time. Each end of the sculpture displays its own distinctive character. One gradually narrows into splintered, branching contours, while the other features a prominent knot surrounded by swirling grain patterns and layered, fractured wood. These natural details create an extraordinary sense of sculptural depth and individuality. Two prominent sections of layered colored glass interrupt the dark wooden form, establishing a striking visual rhythm. Alternating bands of soft cream, pale mint green, warm copper-brown, and deep black introduce a refined geometric structure. Rather than appearing as rigid, perfectly uniform rings, the glass layers subtly follow the uneven contours of the wood, creating a seamless visual relationship between the contrasting materials. One of the sculpture's most compelling qualities is its thoughtful use of contrast. The rough, almost charcoal-black wooden surface stands in dramatic opposition to the smoother, colorful, and occasionally reflective appearance of the glass. The unpredictability of the natural material meets the deliberate order of parallel bands, producing a harmonious balance between organic freedom and artistic precision. The sculpture's elongated horizontal silhouette conveys a sense of calm and stability. Between the two colorful sections, an exposed stretch of dark wood creates a visual pause, allowing the natural texture to become an essential part of the composition. The flowing contours of the timber and the repeating glass bands guide the viewer's eye along the entire length of the artwork, revealing new details from every angle. Light plays an important role in the sculpture's visual presence. Shadows settle into the deep recesses of the wood, emphasizing its rugged textures and intricate grain patterns. Meanwhile, the lighter glass layers gently catch and reflect the surrounding light, introducing subtle highlights against the dark background. The interaction between matte and reflective surfaces adds another dimension to the dialogue between the two materials. “Little One” celebrates the inherent beauty of nature and the creative freedom of contemporary sculpture. Its affectionate, playful title offers a charming contrast to the bold and powerful appearance of the dark wooden form. A truly one-of-a-kind artwork, the sculpture brings together organic shapes, carefully arranged colors, and expressive textures in a composition that cannot be replicated.
